The humidistat is a very valuable device that our southwest Florida seasonal residents count on.  The purpose of a humidistat is to keep your home dry enough to prevent the growth of mold when you are away for an extended time period.

The Humidistat Takes Over for the Thermostat

Many don’t understand what a humidistat does or how to set it.  Your humidistat controls the air-conditioning system when the humidity in your home becomes too high.  So, instead of your air-conditioner kicking on based on the temperature set on the thermostat, it kicks on based on the humidity level in the house.  This is a perfect way to control mold, while leaving the temperature higher in the home and therefore, saving energy and money.

Taking Back Control

However, once you’ve set your humidistat to take over, it controls your thermostat. You may have trouble operating your thermostat when you return to your Florida home if you don’t know how to change the setting.

If you don’t know the proper settings, you may try one of these:

  • ON
  • 20
  • 0
  • At Home

Once you find the right setting, you should be able to regain control and adjust your thermostat.  Give your system about 10 minutes to start cooling.  If you need more help, give us a call.  We’ll get one of our NATE-certified technicians over in a jiffy!
