What Does March Madness Mean To You?

MarchMadness For some March Madness is all about printing out your brackets, studying your seeds, and making bets on which college basketball teams will make it to the Elite Eight or the Final Four, but for some teams – or rather flocks — of snowbirds, it’s more about preparing to fly (or crawl up 75) to the north. Either way, it’s normal to go a little mad with March Madness as you try to soak in the last week or so of Southwest Florida before Easter, catch some basketball on TV, and yet also work to get your home prepared for a long summer away.

Ideally, a Fairy Godmother would whisk in and take care of it all while you lounge by the pool, a margarita in one hand, and your cell phone in other as you describe the idyllic 85 degree weather to friends up north who are recovering from yet another fresh spring snow. Not to worry – by the time you get back up to the northern climes, the ice will have thawed, and there will be blooms on the trees. Meanwhile, since your Fairy Godmother still hasn’t shown up – it’s time to start the closing of your tropical home away from home. And while Home-Tech can help, here are a few things you can do on your own:

  • Summer humidity in Southwest Florida makes a steam bath look refreshing, so make sure every room in your home is sparkling clean so that mildew and pesky Florida insects don’t feel welcome.
  • Moisture is huge factor down here from May through September so close up your home tightly to keep it protected – that means every window and every door. You can also seal toilet bowls and tanks with plastic wrap; make sure kitchen, bath, and shower drains are plugged. If you have hurricane shutters, use them.
  • There’s no reason to leave food in the house except unopened canned goods. If you have flour, sugar, coffee, etc. seal it all well with Ziploc bags and store them in the refrigerator if you choose to leave it running.

What About Air Conditioning and Appliances?SP32-20150327-142928

You can not shut of your AC and go. You will return to a complete disaster of mold in your home. Air-conditioning is a great defense against moisture damage, so if you haven’t called Home-Tech to schedule your clean and check  make sure you do. Watch these two videos from Home-Tech for additional tips for setting your thermostat and humidistat and how to leave the appliances in your Florida home.

It’s a Slam Dunk

It’s all about peace of mind. With Home-Tech, there is no madness in March — you don’t have to worry about your Southwest Florida home when you’re at your northern home sipping a margarita on the porch, enjoying a breeze, and feeling tempted to call your Florida friends who are boiling in July. After all, the grass is always greener.

Spring Training is for Home-Tech Technicians Too

V__A0CEHome-Tech employee owners just attended a luncheon at the Minnesota Twins facility with the Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. It’s great having the Twins spring training “machine” just a hop, skip and a jump away from our Fort Myers location on Techster Boulevard.

It’s a Big Hit

The entire Twins organization is now in full swing with Spring Training as well as their rivals across town at Jet Blue Park. It’s a lot of fun to go out and watch all the AMAZING young players sharpen up their skills in batting, fielding and pitching. The stars of the team are right there to chat with you and the future stars are on fire with the love of baseball. It’s beautiful weather and great family fun for everyone in Fort Myers. No wonder baseball has been called America’s pastime since it began in 1845 with the NY Knickerbockers.

Training is a Home Run

Major league baseball is not the only organization that appreciates the concept of training beginners. With baseball training you start with the basics and as skills improve the guys move up through the organization, always hoping to make it to the big leagues. Home-Tech has a similar concept in place with our Apprenticeship Program. Several weeks ago, new apprentices were hired and are now involved in the intense training program lead by Home-Tech Trainer, Gary Close.NATE certified

Suit UP

Not only do they learn the ins and outs of appliance and air conditioning repair but also the standard of service that is required to be a Home-Tech technician. They are issued uniforms, just like baseball players and spend many hours in classes with hands on training. And their training doesn’t stop with “spring training”. Every technician, no matter how long he has been at Home-Tech still receives ongoing training. Imagine how much training is required to repair every brand and type of appliance and air conditioner. But they learn it, because that’s what it takes to make the cut with you, our customer.

Enjoy some baseball in beautiful SW Florida. Have a hot dog, a cold drink and popcorn. And when you get home from the game, if you need us, Home-Tech will go to bat for you!

Ground Hog Day 2015 Means Good News For Air Conditioners

6MoreWeeksIf you grew up in the North East or the Midwest, you probably remember when Ground Hog Day really was a big deal. In the dead cold of winter, that fat, furry rodent could change your whole outlook on the next six weeks of weather depending on whether he saw his shadow or not. Which if you think about it, is kind of nuts – Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog doesn’t have a meteorology degree, or any computer models, and yet he gives us hope — or dashes our hopes. And this week, on February 2nd, he dashed them – IF you live in a region where there’s actually a winter. Happily, here in Southwest Florida, we do not.

Six More Weeks of Florida Winter – Not So Bad

Phil the furry rodent seeing his shadow means only good news to Southwest Floridians – our air-conditioners can continue their long winter’s rest, while the arrival of our power bills brings us joy instead of causing us to tear our hair out. And the best part? We get to leave our windows and glass sliders open, allowing fresh Florida air into rooms where only ceiling fans are needed to regulate temperature, and if it’s slightly chilly, we pull a blanket over our shoulders rather than cranking up the heater. When Phil sees that shadow, it only means six more weeks of fabulous Florida weather – AND the perfect opportunity to have Home-Tech come out to check and maintain your air-conditioning unit.Lee County AC Repair

This weather won’t last forever, the long summer months are inevitably on their way and preparedness is the key to not being stuck in a hot, humid house with a broken air-conditioner in August. Let us check your filter, fluids, and ducts – it’s the perfect time of year for it. Call Home-Tech today at 800-800-8356 and ask about an A/C Clean and Check.

And let’s hope that groundhog was right – at least for our sake. For your northern friends and relatives, you may want to prepare your guest room.

Home-Tech Customers Happy with Air Conditioning Service and Appliance Repair

Atta Boy rectangle graphicIt takes a lot of cooperation among the employees of a company to provide excellent service to customers. Home-Tech has this down to a science, from the Customer Service rep that answers your call and schedules your appointment time, to the Dispatch Department that plans the route for the service technicians, to the technicians themselves who are trained in all major appliance repairs and ac service. It’s a well oiled machine. The icing on the cake is you, our customers, who are so willing to give the technicians such great Attaboys for their service. Excellent Appliance and AC Repair is Always the Home-Tech Trend

electrical service Home-TechWith it being the week of Halloween strange and spooky things start trending on the internet. Just a quick perusal this morning shows sexy Ebola nurse Halloween costumes taking the lead and causing quite the controversy. Right below that is puppy sized spiders. Yes, you read that right. They have found spiders in the Rainforest that are the size of actual puppies. (Remind me not to visit the Rainforest anytime soon).  And in other spectacular news – who knew – Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg can speak Chinese.

We like to keep the trending news here at Home-Tech a little more real. Employee owners continue to be involved in local charities, Home-Tech has recently joined the Bonita Springs and Naples Chambers of Commerce and the Attaboys keep pouring in for our well trained, professional appliance and AC repair technicians.

Always Happy to Do Business with Home-TechRepair Technicians Home-Tech

Shaun was very good with finding my problem and he stayed for an extra 5 /10 minutes to make sure everything was ok. He was very thorough. I had a technician earlier in the day who could not find the water release that had come out of the side of the house but he was very determined to find it and dug up and found it under my mulch and extended the pipe up and out. He was very good. I guess he didn’t put a cap on the inside handler so water was forced down through and out the side of the house and it worked and it didn’t work so that’s why Shaun had to come back. Anyway both guys were very good technicians. I’m always happy to do business with Home-Tech.

Home-Tech Goes Beyond AC Repair and Appliance Repair

Do something nice to day graphicThis weekend, the calendar told us it was Do Something Nice Day, but for Home-Tech, every day is the perfect day to do something nice. We believe that you can’t do ac repair and appliance repairs in a community unless you’re a part of that community — and if you’re part of it, you want to do everything you can to make it better.

Nicely Done

As the first few breezes of Fall make their way across Southwest Florida, lots of our fabulous winter residents are making their way back to our tropical oasis — and while lounging around in the sun with a frosty beverage is a very nice and much-deserved way to spend your time, there are plenty of hours in the day to do something nice for others, too.

A “Pawfect” Way To Be NiceARC

We have some favorite causes here at Home-Tech and if you visit our main headquarters in Fort Myers, you’ll be able to guess one that’s close to our hearts – when it comes to the cute pups making themselves at home at Home-Tech, we’re happy to report that most are rescue dogs that our big-hearted team members have adopted. We love the Animal Refuge Center in Fort Myers, a non-profit, no-kill shelter that can always benefit from donations, volunteers, and animal lovers to foster homeless pets. If you’d like to do something nice, visit their website for more information: www.animalrefugecenter.com – and while you’re at it, you can order tickets to A.R.C.’s 20th Annual Starlight Auction happening November 29th at Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa. Home-Tech is a proud sponsor of this sparkly event that helps our furry friends.

Home-Tech habitat for humanityHappy Habitats

If you’re handy and you love to build, we hope you’ll check out www.habitat4humanity.org and learn about all the nice things you can do for Habitat for Humanity. Our team has built many houses, plus we’ve donated materials — and there’s nothing more gratifying then helping a future home owner build their first home.

PACE Yourself

Another cause we love here at Home-Tech is PACE Center for Girls. PACE is a school for at-risk girls and they make a huge difference in our community. PACE needs mentors — plus they have everything from school supplies to clothing to toiletries on their wish list. Do something nice and visit www.pacecenter.org

Let’s make it Do Something Nice Day every day of the year – Home-Tech is right there with you.

Bonita Springs Air Conditioner Service Reviews

Bonita Springs air conditionerHome-Tech has been providing Bonita Springs air conditioner service for over 33 years.  And that’s not all . . . customers are loving it!  Read some Bonita Springs customer reviews below about Dan and his great service and attitude.  Way to go, Dan. Attaboy!

Great Job, Done Professionally

Dust had been accumulating in the condo for some time and last week, I noticed a frame on the thermostat which indicated  the filter was not working. It is for health reasons I have this special a/c, which you  all advised me to purchase and install 3 years ago.

Your serviceman Dan #083 appeared before the day was out and the filter was replaced the next day and working great. He gets kudos from me; great job done on my air conditioner, professionally, courteously and he was very caring.

Thanks again Dan for the excellent job.

P. Smith, Bonita Springs FL

5 out of 5 Stars

Matthew serviced my AC/Heating system.  It was a pleasure to have him here.  He not only provided service but gave me a couple of tips for setting them when I am out of town and suggested filters that I could use instead of the reusable one he provided.  I would give him a 5 out of 5 stars.

ac service Home-TechWith these summertime temperatures, this is the time of year when you call for ac service and don’t want to be crossing your fingers and hoping a technician that knows what he’s doing shows up.  You want the best – someone who can tackle any problem you are having and fix it.  It’s too hot and no fun to be miserable while you are waiting for a technician to show up or figure out and solve your problem with your air conditioning.  Shawn is one of those problem solvers and a good technician for Home-Tech.  If you’ve have a service experience you’d like to share about please do so our on Facebook page.  We welcome Google reviews as well.  Keep sending the Attaboys about Home-Tech technicians.  We really appreciate your feedback.

A Fine Technician

Our thanks to Home-Tech for sending out a fine technician to repair our A/C out Friday night.  It is a terrible feeling to be starting the weekend at 8:00 on a Friday night and discover the house is getting warmer.  It is a call that you really do not want to make, but you do.  I was pleased there was an emergency service and someone was available. My wife has not been well and it was a relief that someone would come out at that hour.  So it was after 9:00 when he arrived and immediately figured out the problem.  The fan on the air compressor had gone out.  We were glad he had a replacement with him.  We are very grateful to him and he needs a Atta Boy from you and us.
Thank you Shawn.
