Garbage Disposal Repair

Since the 1920′s homeowners have enjoyed the luxury of grinding up and disposing of kitchen food scraps and sending them right down the drain.  Home-Tech’s technicians are experts at garbage disposal repair and replacement when you need it most – when the sink is clogged up, or the disposal won’t turn on at all.  You can count on the quality of service provided by Home-Tech for 30 years in the southwest Florida area.

There are several food items that you should never put in the garbage disposal.  When clogs occur, these are usually the culprits: animal bones, shellfish shells, pasta, rice, stringey vegetables, unpopped popcorn kernals, potato peels, egg shells, coffee grounds and filters, etc.  When putting fat down the disposal, be sure to run the cold water so the fat will congeal and be able to be ground up in the disposal.  Always run the cold water before you run the disposal.   Also run the disposal and cold water for at least 60 seconds to be sure that the everything is ground up properly and down the drain and cleared through your plumbing.

Does It Smell Bad?

If your disposal has an odor, there is probably some rotting garbage stuck in it.  Try grinding up lemon pieces with some baking soda.  Run the cold water and the disposal for awhile.  If this doesn’t solve the problem, it is best to call for service.

Is Something Stuck In It?

When your disposal is jammed, it jams up more than just the drain.  It “jams up” your ability to do the dishes, as you can’t use the dishwasher either.  The inconvenience of this is frustrating.  This is a problem requiring the service of an expert appliance technician.  For your own safety, do not ever put your hand down inside the disposal.  Schedule a service call with Home-Tech today.
