Repair Q & A
These are the first questions you should ask about appliance repair.
The major appliance service business has always been very fragmented. There is no licensing requirement by the State of Florida; only a simple, county, occupational license is required. Rarely, is there any effective training for the major appliance field, except for manufacturer’s training, (often not offered). What can you do to protect your appliances from unauthorized, unskilled repair companies? Do your homework. Check out all in-home service companies before you open your door. Ask yourself the following:
- How long has this company been in business?
- Do they have a physical address?
- Are they authorized by the manufacturer to perform the needed repair?
- Do they arrive in clean, identifiable company vehicles?
- Do they show you ID before entering your home?
- Do they produce a clear quote or estimate before a repair is made?
- Do they invest in training?
- Do they have a training facility?
- Do they belong to any trade or local organizations?
- Are they involved in your community and local charities?
- Are they properly insured?
These are just a few questions to ask when you need your major appliances serviced. Never, EVER allow a company into your home just because they throw out a low price or a “too good to be true” offer. Working with a company you trust, with skilled technicians, is in your best interest. And, having an ongoing service agreement is the best possible insurance for your appliances.
