At Home-Tech, AC Repair Rhymes with Fair

Broken AC reducedOn Friday we discovered, much to our delight, that it was Mother Goose Day. If anyone should have their own holiday, it’s certainly Mother Goose whose clever nursery rhymes can be adapted to any occasion.

In fact, Mother Goose, who offered a great service and was a lifesaver for scores of parents as they rhymed their children to sleep, got us thinking about our own service department at Home-Tech helping folks with their AC repairs.

Because whether it’s a kindly old lady in an apron named Goose, or one of our fantastic Service Technicians in their snappy uniforms– a lifesaver is a lifesaver.

The Rescue of Mother Hubbard

Fabulous and fit Mother Hubbard

Always kept tools in her cupboard

Just in case of an AC repair.

She  always tried to care for her lair

But, sometimes, life can be unfair,

and the AC stops making cold air.

tools reducedShe opened up the instruction book

And attempted to give it a look.

But the fine print made no sense

And still, no air came from the vents.

So she turned on all the fans

And started wringing both her hands.

It’s hot and almost summer!

Broken AC is a major bummer.

And so she began to call around

Only to discover, no help to be found.

Suddenly, she remembered what Miss Muffet had said:

“Call Home-Tech when you’re AC is dead!”

She called and magically a Tech came to her door,

Like a Prince arriving by boat on a shore.

When she bought a Service Agreement her first call was FREE

She was so happy, she shouted with glee!

AC Crew improvedThis isn’t just a child’s nursery rhyme.

To have a repair won’t cost a dime.

A Service Agreement is your hero

And it’s magical when you pay zero.

Sweet dreams – from all of us at Home-Tech.

Take Children to Work Home-Tech Style

Steve and SonyaBack in 1993, Take Your Daughter to Work Day was established as a day of celebration and a way to celebrate women in the work force – in 2003, the celebration grew to include boys – and is now recognized as Take Your Children to Work Day. It’s always the 4th Thursday of April, and this year fell on April 22nd. But, here at Home-Tech, our President & CEO, Steve Marino has been taking his daughter, Sonya, to work every day since she was 7-years old. “Well, technically, Dad took me to work every day, because in the beginning, Home-Tech operated out of our house,” says Home-Tech CFO, Sonya Sawyer.

Bright Beginnings

When she was little, her sister had to move into Sonya’s room to make room for Steve’s office. And even at that young age, when her Dad went on service calls on weekends, Sonya would go with him, “It was fun,” she remembers. “I’d hand him his tools while he was working on an appliance, so I’d know the difference between a flat head and a Phillip’s head screwdriver. The customers were always really nice – sometimes, they’d even feed me,” she laughs.

The Tradition Continues

Sonya says she loved having quality time with her Dad – and seeing him help people. As a teenager, Sonya worked at Home-Tech after school and on weekends. She became a CPA and worked at a large firm, but in 1999, her Dad offered her the CFO position. “He really treats me like any other employee,” says Sonya. “But, then again, everyone’s treated the same because we’re one big family here at Home-Tech. We take pride in being a locally owned and operated business.”

Family Pride

These days, Sonya’s been known to bring her 7-year old daughter, Chloe to work – and her 10-year old son, Brandon, is already getting his hands dirty by helping out in the warehouse. “He’s already told me that when he grows up, he wants to work at Home-Tech,” she says, smiling.

At Home-Tech it really is all in the family. From management, to our team, and to the customer – family pride means quality work. So if you take your daughter or son to work – you never know – they might end up working just down the hall from you someday.

Home-Tech CEO Steve Marino Goes Over the Edge

Steve Marino and Brian Sawyer

Steve Marino and Brian Sawyer

It’s not often that you can watch your CEO performing a death defying feat and on a Friday the 13th to boot. But that’s exactly what happened in Naples last week. Steve Marino, President and CEO of Home-Tech hung over the edge from the roof of the Naples Grand for a full minute and then began his descent, rapelling down, carefully at first and then James Bond style as he got the hang of it. All of this was done in order to raise funds to help with the life skills & education of our youth through Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida. The Over the Edge event continued on into Saturday the 14th with many participants enjoying their precarious descent and the cheers of the crowd below.

Many Sacrifices of Time, Talent and Energynaples grand

Home-Tech employee owners feel very motivated to support local causes and charities in our communities that we service. We are thankful to the residents of SW Florida for using our air conditioning and appliance repair services for over 34 years and feel compelled to give back. Home-Tech just recently began work on it’s 18th home construction project for Habitat for Humanity, is hosting the Duck Slap Party in Bradenton for the Pace Center for Girls Duck Race which is rapidly approaching, and has many more charitable events and giving lined out for the rest of 2015 to provide support in many different ways.

Much time, effort, sweat and great care is given by Home-Tech employees in order to provide service beyond the walls of Home-Tech. We hope to see you at many of these events.

Ground Hog Day 2015 Means Good News For Air Conditioners

6MoreWeeksIf you grew up in the North East or the Midwest, you probably remember when Ground Hog Day really was a big deal. In the dead cold of winter, that fat, furry rodent could change your whole outlook on the next six weeks of weather depending on whether he saw his shadow or not. Which if you think about it, is kind of nuts – Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog doesn’t have a meteorology degree, or any computer models, and yet he gives us hope — or dashes our hopes. And this week, on February 2nd, he dashed them – IF you live in a region where there’s actually a winter. Happily, here in Southwest Florida, we do not.

Six More Weeks of Florida Winter – Not So Bad

Phil the furry rodent seeing his shadow means only good news to Southwest Floridians – our air-conditioners can continue their long winter’s rest, while the arrival of our power bills brings us joy instead of causing us to tear our hair out. And the best part? We get to leave our windows and glass sliders open, allowing fresh Florida air into rooms where only ceiling fans are needed to regulate temperature, and if it’s slightly chilly, we pull a blanket over our shoulders rather than cranking up the heater. When Phil sees that shadow, it only means six more weeks of fabulous Florida weather – AND the perfect opportunity to have Home-Tech come out to check and maintain your air-conditioning unit.Lee County AC Repair

This weather won’t last forever, the long summer months are inevitably on their way and preparedness is the key to not being stuck in a hot, humid house with a broken air-conditioner in August. Let us check your filter, fluids, and ducts – it’s the perfect time of year for it. Call Home-Tech today at 800-800-8356 and ask about an A/C Clean and Check.

And let’s hope that groundhog was right – at least for our sake. For your northern friends and relatives, you may want to prepare your guest room.

Clean Off Your Desk – Less Paperwork with a Home-Tech Service Agreement

CleanYourDeskWell, it came and went – National Clean Off Your Desk Day – it was last week. And I don’t know about you, but I still haven’t cleaned off my desk. Clean Off Your Desk Day makes plenty of sense – it’s a new year, after all, and we’re still only around three weeks into it – an uncluttered desk means an uncluttered mind, right? Unfortunately Feng Shui is not always easily achieved when you’re trying to organize bills, loose change, paper clips, business cards, receipts (we won’t even MENTION that tax season is right around the corner – maybe on April 14th we’ll start thinking about that), and more.

De-cluttering and De-stressing

While cleaning off your desk is a worthy goal, I propose going even further, because frankly, at my level of disorganization, I could use Clean Out Your Closet Day, which will include finally donating those jeans that I haven’t been able to zip up since I was in my 20’s. Also, Clean Out Under Your Bathroom Sink Day – because, really, does anyone truly need four cans of almost empty hair spray, 16 different shades of brown eyes shadow, and countless prescription medications that expired in the mid-1990s? While we’re at it, I would embrace Clean Out Your Car Day because if I actually recycled my vast collection of empty water bottles, it could likely save the world.

First Step – Service Agreementappliance repair technician

Getting organized and de-cluttering can sometimes feel like a challenge, but studies show that the more streamlined you make your living space, your mind will follow suit. Sometimes, it starts with the first step – like getting the paperwork off your desk.

Being a homeowner requires you to hire lots of different companies for help and that means lots of bills and business cards and clutter.  With a Gold or Silver Service Agreement, you’re taking an important step towards organization. There is only ONE PHONE NUMBER you need for all or our services. Having a Service Agreement with Home-Tech means that when one of your appliances or your air conditioning stops working, all you have to do is make one call for 7 days a week service – even if it’s a weekend or a holiday. As well, Home-Tech offers plumbing and minor electrical repairs. Our friendly, professional technicians are at your beck and call – and you won’t have to file a bill on your desk, because if you have a Gold Service Agreement, service calls are free and unlimited (Silver Service Agreements mean only a minimal service fee).

Peace of mind comes with a Service Agreement and once you have peace of mind, you’ll be ready to tackle that desk – and closet, and car, and bathroom cupboard – and it’s the perfect way to start out a new year.

Home-Tech Customers Happy with Air Conditioning Service and Appliance Repair

Atta Boy rectangle graphicIt takes a lot of cooperation among the employees of a company to provide excellent service to customers. Home-Tech has this down to a science, from the Customer Service rep that answers your call and schedules your appointment time, to the Dispatch Department that plans the route for the service technicians, to the technicians themselves who are trained in all major appliance repairs and ac service. It’s a well oiled machine. The icing on the cake is you, our customers, who are so willing to give the technicians such great Attaboys for their service. Thanks for doing that and we are going to keep sharing your good words!

Home-Tech takes the Scare out of Appliance Repair

tombstoneFor many folks, a brain-hungry hoard of flesh-eating zombies is scary — a dude in a Freddy Kreuger mask with a chain saw is terrifying – and for most of us, a scary clown jumping out from around a dark corner makes us scream.

It Gets Worse…

But, if you’re like me – there’s nothing more horrifying than a broken appliance or one that’s missing a part. I’d rather watch a marathon of “The Exorcist”, “The Shining”, and “Psycho” over and over again than contend with an air-conditioner on the fritz in the Southwest Florida heat. Seriously — instead of seeing my thermostat rise into the high-80s, I’d be far happier to see those creepy twin girls appear at the end of my hall, Linda Blair spray pea soup all over my wall, or meet  Norman Bates in my shower than lay around fanning myself frantically while I wait for a repair man to show up. In fact, I think “Broken A/C” would be a much more popular costume (in terms of scariness) then, say, a Demon Vampire or an Evil Doll. I mean, at least you can run away from a Demon Vampire or an Evil Doll. When you have a broken air-conditioner, you’re too hot and sweaty to run. In fact, instead of using decorations to create a haunted house in your home, just turn off the air and invite guests to come in and sit in the heat – it’s much scarier – especially if you lock the doors.

Scare Your Appliances Straight With a Service Agreementpumpkin with logo

Whether it’s an air-conditioner, kitchen appliance repair, washer, dryer, or more, you can stop the nightmares about broken appliances or missing parts with the security of a Home-Tech Service Agreement. We have a Gold Plan for all you ghouls that want extra protection and a Silver Plan for all the spooks that need to pay a little less – either way, we answer the question of who you’re going to call when your appliance busts – and that’s Home-Tech. Not just on Halloween, but for security the entire year.

And with Halloween so close, I need to get to work on my sexy “Broken A/C” costume. I’m thinking two used filters and maybe some galoshes? Maybe a little dress with thermostat that reads 89 degrees on it? Perhaps just a bunch of strategically placed tangled wires and I can just walk around making creaking noises and blowing hot air with a portable blow-dryer? I think I’m on to something here…

Excellent Appliance and AC Repair is Always the Home-Tech Trend

electrical service Home-TechWith it being the week of Halloween strange and spooky things start trending on the internet. Just a quick perusal this morning shows sexy Ebola nurse Halloween costumes taking the lead and causing quite the controversy. Right below that is puppy sized spiders. Yes, you read that right. They have found spiders in the Rainforest that are the size of actual puppies. (Remind me not to visit the Rainforest anytime soon).  And in other spectacular news – who knew – Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg can speak Chinese.

We like to keep the trending news here at Home-Tech a little more real. Employee owners continue to be involved in local charities, Home-Tech has recently joined the Bonita Springs and Naples Chambers of Commerce and the Attaboys keep pouring in for our well trained, professional appliance and AC repair technicians.

Always Happy to Do Business with Home-TechRepair Technicians Home-Tech

Shaun was very good with finding my problem and he stayed for an extra 5 /10 minutes to make sure everything was ok. He was very thorough. I had a technician earlier in the day who could not find the water release that had come out of the side of the house but he was very determined to find it and dug up and found it under my mulch and extended the pipe up and out. He was very good. I guess he didn’t put a cap on the inside handler so water was forced down through and out the side of the house and it worked and it didn’t work so that’s why Shaun had to come back. Anyway both guys were very good technicians. I’m always happy to do business with Home-Tech.

Home-Tech Goes Beyond AC Repair and Appliance Repair

Do something nice to day graphicThis weekend, the calendar told us it was Do Something Nice Day, but for Home-Tech, every day is the perfect day to do something nice. We believe that you can’t do ac repair and appliance repairs in a community unless you’re a part of that community — and if you’re part of it, you want to do everything you can to make it better.

Nicely Done

As the first few breezes of Fall make their way across Southwest Florida, lots of our fabulous winter residents are making their way back to our tropical oasis — and while lounging around in the sun with a frosty beverage is a very nice and much-deserved way to spend your time, there are plenty of hours in the day to do something nice for others, too.

A “Pawfect” Way To Be NiceARC

We have some favorite causes here at Home-Tech and if you visit our main headquarters in Fort Myers, you’ll be able to guess one that’s close to our hearts – when it comes to the cute pups making themselves at home at Home-Tech, we’re happy to report that most are rescue dogs that our big-hearted team members have adopted. We love the Animal Refuge Center in Fort Myers, a non-profit, no-kill shelter that can always benefit from donations, volunteers, and animal lovers to foster homeless pets. If you’d like to do something nice, visit their website for more information: www.animalrefugecenter.com – and while you’re at it, you can order tickets to A.R.C.’s 20th Annual Starlight Auction happening November 29th at Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa. Home-Tech is a proud sponsor of this sparkly event that helps our furry friends.

Home-Tech habitat for humanityHappy Habitats

If you’re handy and you love to build, we hope you’ll check out www.habitat4humanity.org and learn about all the nice things you can do for Habitat for Humanity. Our team has built many houses, plus we’ve donated materials — and there’s nothing more gratifying then helping a future home owner build their first home.

PACE Yourself

Another cause we love here at Home-Tech is PACE Center for Girls. PACE is a school for at-risk girls and they make a huge difference in our community. PACE needs mentors — plus they have everything from school supplies to clothing to toiletries on their wish list. Do something nice and visit www.pacecenter.org

Let’s make it Do Something Nice Day every day of the year – Home-Tech is right there with you.

Great Repair Technicians – Attaboy Shaun, Matt, and Shawn

electrical service Home-TechWith Home-Tech’s Attaboy program there are plenty of ways for our customers to give our technicians reviews for their repair work.  Customers can call in, email or give us a Google review.  Here are the comments about the service from Shaun, Matt and Shawn, three excellent technicians with Home-Tech.

Stayed Until the Bitter End

I’ve been having trouble with my refrigerator and been really worrying about.  I had one of your techs, Shaun come over to my place.  Shaun did a heck of a job. Helped me, told me what he was doing, why he was doing it. He was here on time and stayed until the bitter end. I thought his personality was very helpful. I appreciate Shaun’s repair service.  He does Home-Tech well when he represents them.

My many thanks for both Matt and Shawn.

Matt came when the ac quit cooling, determined the problem, and got the ac to cool while a part was ordered. He is polite, sweet to the dogs who live here and efficient.

Shawn came today with the part to fix the ac. What a nice young man! He fixed the problem, cleaned up after himself and was gone in short order.

I do appreciate that the company has taken the time to invest- wisely, I might add- in these young folks as they start their careers! What an excellent way to build both loyalty and great customer service!

Kudos to you!
