We Love Working With Home-Tech for a Refrigerator Repair

To Whom It May Concern,

We want to give an “Atta Boy” shout out to both Milt and Steve, who came out to Lakewood Ranch to service our GE Monogram Side by Side Refrigerator Freezer.

We knew there was a leak and even though these guys were not scheduled to see us that day; they showed up, friendly as can be, and stayed until they got the job done (which was not easy)!!  We were very impressed with them and appreciated their hard work more than they know. We love working with Home Tech!

We Appreciate the AttentionAir Conditioning Home-Tech Service vehicle

To whom it may concern,
My wife and I just had an issue with our Samsung refrigerator which we had purchased from you July, 2013.  Just recently, we had started hearing a vibration coming from the fridge which we had not heard before.   We called to make an appointment to have someone come out to check to see what the problem was.  We spoke with Lisa who is responsible for all the warranty covered appliances.  After explaining the problem, she scheduled a day for a tech to come to our residence.  First it was Marty who came and tried to hear the vibration to see where it might be coming from.  Unfortunately, he was here for 45 minutes and never heard the vibration.  Because of his work schedule and the fact he had not heard the vibration, we all concluded it would be best if he continued on with his day.  Though he did suggest that we could try recording the sound and then replay it for him or another tech who may respond if it should continue to make the vibrating noise.  The next day, we heard it again and called Lisa again.  She scheduled another tech to come out.  Brian S came out.  Because we were able to record the vibration, we played it for him and he knew almost immediately where the noise was coming from.  He moved the fridge out from the wall and took off the back panel.  During this time, he was able to recycle the fridge and the noise did occur.  As he looked, he did not see anything malfunctioning, however, he did put his hand on something and the vibration stopped.  It seemed as though a small piece of  plastic may have been causing the vibration so he moved it somewhat and the vibration stopped.  When he replaced the rear panel, he used some extra padding in order to reduce any further vibration.  He also suggested that the fridge remain an extra inch or two out further from the wall.  After a day or so, the vibration returned.  So, we called Lisa again and again she rescheduled a tech to come to the house.  This time it was Marty again.  As soon as he came to the house, he was able to hear the vibration.  He too determined that the vibration was coming from the rear of the fridge.  He removed the panel, also determined that it was nothing mechanical but did find that a horizontal, thin black bar seemed to be causing the vibration because it seemed to have moved out of place.  He moved the bar back into place and he recycled the fridge to see if the vibration would occur and it did not.  He replaced the back panel and put the fridge back in place and also agreed to keep the fridge an inch or two away from the wall.  Since then, we have not heard the vibration at all.  It has been a week and half and we have not heard any vibration noises.
Needless to say, we are very, very pleased with the service and the attention that was given to this somewhat minor problem.  We can’t say enough about Lisa who was very patient and also very attentive to our needs.  Brian and Marty both were patient, understood the problem and were more than accommodating.  We would just like you to know how much we appreciate the attention that was given to our problem.  Of course, we have never had any problem with any of the techs that have been to our home.
Thanks again.

Air Conditioning Repair TechVery Professional Refrigerator Repair

Brian serviced our refrigerator months ago.  He left his comment card, which we didn’t respond immediately because the problem had been recurring so frequently. I found it today when cleaning out my desk and want to let you know that it appears he resolved the problem and the refrigerator is working fine now. He was very professional and helpful so we wanted to be sure to comment.
Thanks Brian!

Man Finds Leprechaun In His Refrigerator!

refrigerator leprichaunThis just in – Mick O’ Malley of Southwest Florida opened his refrigerator on St. Patrick’s Day to find a wee, green leprechaun lurking inside. Upon discovering the alleged mythological creature, O’ Malley immediately alerted local police. According to Officer Brian O’ Callahan, O’ Malley was pretty shook up, “Me and the missus had a few friends over for St. Pat’s Day,” he explained. “I went to the ‘fridge to get another Guinness – it helps the corn beef and cabbage go down, ya’ know – and there he was! He had a little pipe in his hand and he looked real cheerful – he was doing a little jig on top of my case of beer!”

Man Fails Sobriety Test

Suspicious, Officer O’ Callahan issued a field sobriety test on O’ Malley and determined that his leprechaun sighting was the result of too many spirited adult beverages. “I’m Irish, too,” said Officer O’ Callahan. “On St. Patrick’s Day, revelers have been known to see little green men. We’re used to these reports.” Officer O’ Callahan advised O’ Malley to drink several glasses of water, take two Advils, and head to bed.

Avoid Leprechaun Sightings With The Keginatorrefrigerator leprichaun 2

For not that much green, beer connoisseurs and St. Patrick’s Day partiers can cut the fridge out altogether with True’s Beverage Dispenser available at Home-Tech. It’s perfect for a keg of beer, thus earning the name “The Keginator”. With two convenient taps, and an ice cold cooling system, you won’t have to open the door and risk seeing any dancing leprechauns (they still may be there, but you won’t see them, trust us). You don’t need the luck of the Irish to learn more, just your cheerful Home-Tech Rep — where your pot of gold awaits you! And remember the old saying: “An Irishman is never drunk as long as he can hold onto one blade of grass to keep from falling off the earth.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Home-Tech.

The Bachelor and His Refrigerator

bachelor freezerThe three-hour season finale of the “The Bachelor” was last night with two ladies remaining, vying for the indecisive heart of Venezuelan hunk, Juan Pablo Galavis. Which lady did you root for? Someday maybe he will marry and have his life change forever – and that includes his refrigerator.

A Bachelor’s Appliances Could Be As Lonely as He Is

Whether it’s a bachelor friend, a son or brother on his own, or a dude that rooms with other dudes – guys’ refrigerators can often be barren wastelands. Some are filled with only a plethora of condiments for all the take-out they consume; others boast beer, beer, and MORE beer; still others are filled with bottled water (to take on runs and work-outs) and half-eaten pizzas (to eat cold for breakfast). Oh, how we hope that Juan Pablo’s woman will fill his soul AND his refrigerator.

Use it Or Lose Itbachelor refrigerator

At Home-Tech, we know that if you’re living like a bachelor, you’re probably using your appliances sparingly. A single guy (or gal) might use the microwave often, but the stove doesn’t get the same kind of attention. Instead of giving it a rose and sending it on its way, it’s important to turn it on once or twice a month to keep it in running order. Same as your dishwasher; hopefully you’re recycling all those paper plates and red solo cups, but it’s necessary to keep your dishwasher healthy and lubricated by running it now and then.

Revving Things Up

Seasonal residents wonder why their appliances break down when they’re very sparingly using them (because they are hardly here). Not often using them can be a part of the problem. If you have friends or neighbors checking on your Florida home while you’re up north during the summer, it’s not a bad idea to have them rev up your appliances.

You Don’t Have to Go It Alone When You Have Home-Tech

We are here for you every day of the week if any of your appliances stand you up. Home-Tech considers refrigerator repair an emergency. We don’t want you to lose your fridge contents if it stops cooling. So give us a call for service. We won’t show up in a limo, but we will arrive as soon as possible to do your refrigerator repair.

Stainless Steel Refrigerator – No More Magnets On Appliances

P100832_3zlarge_jpeg_th_thWhere have all the finger paintings gone? What about the alphabet magnets or the magnetic poetry set where your creativity could reign free? Times they are a changin’ and the end of an era is upon us. We are now witnessing the Fall of Magnets, a bare refrigerator door without magnetic powers. How has this happened you may ask? It happened when we all made the shift to stainless steel refrigerators. While stylish, they aren’t magnetic.

Refrigerator Door Bares All

Its a tough time for magnets these days with all of these fancy, shiny, sleek new stainless steel refrigerators on the market. But fear not, there are solutions. Let’s say you have an Electrolux Standard-Depth French Door Refrigerator with IQ-Touch Controls, where can you find the room to post your child’s good grades, holiday art project or that wedding invitation that you can’t lose? Fret not, there are a few solutions available.

  1. Choppa Board:  A powder coated sheet of metal, the choppa board backed with powerful suction cups allows you to place a magnet board on most flat, nonporous surfaces without the need to drill, nail or use adhesives. The price is $20.
  2. Adhesive Putty: This reusable solution works great on any surface. The best part is, there is no clutter of magnets. We recommend the Scotch brand Adhesive putty, as it is easy to remove and won’t leave big circles on your beautiful stainless steel refrigerator.
  3. Lulalu clips: Lulalu uses a proprietary material that grips to smooth slick non-porous surfaces including stainless steel, glass, mirrors, tile, and wood. Non-adhesive, it leaves no marks or residue and is non-toxic. Each Click Clip holds up to 10 sheets of paper and is 2″ diameter. The clips start at $5.

10 Secrets to Keeping your Refrigerator Fresh and Clean

Have you ever opened up your refrigerator, pinned your nose closed and asked that all too familiar question, “Where is that smell coming from?” This is an all too common scenario, and there are simple ways to avoid a stinky fridge. Thanks to our friends at HGTV.com, we have provided you with a few helpful tips and tricks to keeping your refrigerator clean and odor-free.

Top 10 Tips to Make a Refrigerator Really Shine

  1. Keep your refrigerator at a steady 37° – 40° to prevent wasting energy and your food from spoiling.
  2. Eliminate those lingering odors from your vegetable bins by crumbling up a brown paper grocery bag and leaving it inside the refrigerator bin for 48 hours. The paper will absorb the odors.
  3. Create a homemade all purpose cleaner by combining the following in a gallon of hot water: 1cup clear ammonia, ½ cup vinegar and ¼ cup baking soda. Pour into spray bottle, or use from a bowl with a sponge. This no rinse formula is a degreaser that prevents mold and mildew. Wipe down the entire fridge with this solution, including the drawers and shelves.
  4. Check for adequate tightness of the unseating seam around the door by placing a lighted flashlight inside the fridge and closing the door. Turn the lights off in the room, and see if any light escapes from the seams. If you see light, you will need to call Home-Tech for a refrigerator repair.
  5. Use toothpaste to remove tough stains from the inside and outside of your refrigerator. Toothpaste is a gentle abrasive with a pleasant odor.
  6. Try buffing paste wax into the surface of your refrigerator to prevent grease and odor buildup on the top of the refrigerator after cleaning.
  7. Need a fast odor fix? Try sprinkling vanilla or orange extract on a few cotton balls. Place them in a shallow dish inside the fridge.
  8. Have dust bunnies under the fridge? Remove the grill and run a yardstick covered with a pair of pantyhose underneath. Also, make sure to check the pan of water underneath the refrigerator, as it may house some stinky or odorous water.
  9. Dust off the coils on the back of your refrigerator every six months. Dirtier coils cause the refrigerator to use more energy to keep your food cold.
  10. If you don’t keep a full refrigerator, fill a gallon jug with water and leave it in the refrigerator. This will help keep the refrigerator cool and efficiently running.

The Laws of Leftovers. How Many Days Will They Last in Refrigerator?

The Refrigerator Rules of Leftovers

Face it. Holding onto to leftovers for too long is something we are all guilty of one time or another. At times, we shove foods into the far back of the refrigerator, hoping we will find it again later in the week. But instead, it goes bad and we find it after it has far surpassed its prime.

All of us at Home-Tech understand the natural inclination to hold onto the foods we have prepared and wish to enjoy again.  Refrigeration and food storage best practices will ensure enjoyment of your leftovers and decrease the likeliness of food spoilage.

How Long is Too Long in the Fridge?

  • Meats, cooked seafood, vegetables, pizza, soups, and casseroles should be eaten within three to four days.
  • Potatoes or pasta salads should be eaten within three to five days.
  • Rice, pasta, and hard-cooked eggs should be eaten within seven days.
  • For desserts: Cream pies and fruit pies should be eaten within three to four days; cake and cheesecake should stay safe for up to seven days. Note: Desserts should be refrigerated.
